🐾 Pawkala Adoption Terms & Conditions

The following Terms & Conditions outline the responsibilities, policies, and expectations for all adopters under Pawkala’s care. Please read this document carefully before proceeding with your adoption application. By adopting, you agree to adhere to the terms stated below.

Highlighted Policies

  • Adopters must meet all Pawkala adoption requirements and complete the full application process.
  • No payment plans are accepted — adoption fees must be paid in full within 24 hours of approval.
  • The adoption trial period is 14 days from the date the animal joins the adopter.
  • Any abusive or inappropriate behaviour towards Pawkala volunteers or representatives will not be tolerated.
  • All adoption decisions made by Pawkala’s management are final.

General Terms

Ownership During Trial: The animal remains Pawkala’s property during the 14-day trial. Ownership transfers only after successful completion.

Application Approval: Submitting an application does not guarantee approval; all decisions are at Pawkala’s discretion.

Adoption Fee: The fee, paid before the trial begins, serves as a bond and may be retained if the animal is returned or recalled. Refunds are at Pawkala’s discretion.

Animal Removal: Pawkala may reclaim the animal during the trial if necessary. Failure to comply with removal requests may result in legal action.

Return of the Animal: Animals may be returned anytime during the trial if unsuitable or unwanted. One week’s notice is preferred, though urgent returns are accepted.

Veterinary Care: All vet visits must be approved and handled through a Pawkala-nominated clinic. Unauthorised costs will not be reimbursed.

Desexing: If not desexed before adoption, the adopter must arrange it by six months of age via a Pawkala-approved vet and provide proof within seven days.

Lost or Impounded Animals: The adopter must notify Pawkala immediately if the animal is lost or impounded and assist in retrieval. Costs are the adopter’s responsibility.

Premises Checks: Pawkala may request home photos or visits to ensure a safe and suitable environment.

Behavioural Concerns: Any issues must be promptly reported. Adopters must follow advice from Pawkala or approved trainers.

Prohibited Activities: Animals must not be used for breeding, hunting, or harmful activities. Greyhounds must comply with state regulations.

Care & Safety Obligations

  • Animals must be kept indoors at night and have access to safe, shaded outdoor space during the day.
  • Only humane training tools may be used — choke chains, prong collars, and tethering are not allowed.
  • Animals must not visit off-leash areas during the trial.
  • Adopters must ensure safe interaction with people and other pets.
  • During holidays or noisy events, pets should be secured within fenced or enclosed areas.

Post-Adoption & Legal Responsibilities

  • If rehoming becomes necessary, the animal must be returned to Pawkala or an approved agency.
  • Adopters must comply with all council laws and licensing requirements.
  • Breed identification is based on best assessment and not guaranteed.
  • Respectful communication with Pawkala representatives is expected at all times.
  • Adopters assume full responsibility for the animal’s health, behaviour, and any resulting damage or liability.

Liability & Indemnity

By adopting, the adopter releases Pawkala, its volunteers, and affiliates from liability for any injury, damage, or loss occurring during or after adoption. The adopter accepts full responsibility for the animal’s welfare, conduct, and safety while under their care.
