How adoption works

How Adoption Works

Step 1: Explore & Choose

Visit our Adopt a Pet page to browse all available dogs and cats currently looking for homes.

Each profile includes personality details, history, age, and care needs — helping you find the pet that best fits your family and lifestyle.

Step 2: Complete the Adoption Application

Once you’ve found your match, submit the appropriate application form:
  • Dog Adoption Application
  • Cat Adoption Application
These forms help us understand your home environment, experience with pets, and daily routine so we can make the best possible match for both sides.

Supporting Documents:

If you rent, please include a copy of your rental agreement or pet approval, and yard or fencing photos (for dogs).
Send these to hello@pawkala.com along with your application.

Step 3: Application Review

Our team carefully reviews your form and may contact you for clarification or a quick phone chat.
Please check your email inbox and spam folder for updates — we’ll reach out within a few days.

Step 4: Meet & Greet

If your application is a good fit, we’ll arrange a meet and greet (either in person or virtually).
This allows you and your potential pet to spend some time together to see if it’s the right match.

Step 5: Home Check & Approval

We may request photos or a short home visit to ensure your space is safe and suitable.
Once approved, we’ll confirm your adoption and provide guidance for the transition.

Step 6: Adoption Fee & Trial Period

All adoptions include a 14-day trial period to ensure everyone settles in comfortably.
Adoption fees must be paid in full before the trial begins and cover essential vet care such as:
During the trial, the pet remains under Pawkala’s ownership until the adoption is finalised.

Step 7: Welcome Home!

Once the trial is complete, the adoption is finalised, and your pet officially becomes part of your family.
We’ll provide advice and ongoing support to help you and your new best friend adjust happily.
